Doom
Review by JagDogger2525
"The Godmother of the FPS genre"
DooM is focused around the soul survivor in Hell THEN on Earth. Ask yourself. Why was the guy in Hell in the FIRST place? With DooM, you have to remember (stimulates memory) where you WERE compared to where you ARE.
Weapons - 10/10
DooM is the FPS to introduce some weapons from the real world [Shotgun, Rocket Launcher, Chainsaw] (as well as fantasy {Plasma Gun, BFG9000}) into the FPS genre. I am not mentioning the pistol nor the chain gun (as well as the machine gun [which is in DooM 3 but not the previous DooMs]) because they were already introduced on Wolfenstein 3D.
Graphics, Sound, and Controls - 10/10
Everything in these categories are perfect. The weapons and the sounds from them are perfect. The controls to fire all those powerful weapons are not that hard. The enemies look great and you could hear where the alive enemies are compared to your stand point (after you meet them the first time). The controls are well known throughout the FPS genre for the PC before 2000. The graphics look so good that I prefer DooM and such games over FPS games today. Besides, I have not played a FPS on the PC if it was released after 2000.
Versatileness - 10/10
DooM is a great versatile game. It is so versatile the you could create your own monsters, textures, rooms, you could even create a whole new DooM for a twist on an old FPS. I mean, you could create 36 new levels and play them with friends or even by yourself. I have seen people create weapons to replace the old weapons. That is how versatile DooM is. So you could go from the usual pistol and fist in the Base to the fist(s) and knife in your own bedroom. A great reason to love DooM. I have not seen this done for any other PC game other than the DooM PC series (even Doom 3 {I think}), Heretic, Hexen, and other games I did not even play but are able to be modified.
Bottom Line:
DooM has memorable enemies and guns. If you are going to bash this game then you should not be reviewing at all. This game is one of the most well known FPS games ever. Don't believe me? Check the Boards for this game and you will see that DooM is definitely worth it. I feel like playing DooM right now. How about you?
Buy or Rent:
Buy. DooM is too good to rent nor pass up. Get DooM and you will not be sorry.
