Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II
Review by Cloud2003
"Lucas Arts takes a turn in the right direction"
Presentation-
10
Never before have I seen a set of dancing storm troopers. The menu is also cleverly designed, with clear scenes from the first movie, which look excellent in the menu background.
Graphics-
10
The screen shots do not do this game any justice, you must see it in action to get the true effect of the realtime shadowing and great detail. Each level has its own unique environment which include great shadowing on the ships as well as shard and detailed ships. The water in mission 6 is breathtaking, and there are few hints of pop-up. Fog is no problem when it comes to RL, as that is never seen in the game.
Control-
9
The gamecubes controller is just right for this game. Everything feels perfect. L brakes, R boosts, A fires the primary weapon, B fires the secondary weapon, z barrel rolls, X brings up a targeting cel shaded system, Y brings you inside the cockpit, C changes views, D pad enters commands, and the Joystick moves the vehicle. The game takes advantage of the Gamecubes button layout, but the only complaint I have is that the ship is a tad bit slippery. It should have been slight stiffer when it came to moving the ships, because a tad push on the joystick sends the ship quickly dashing in that direction a little too fast.
Gameplay-
8
10 regular missions and 2 secret ones...seems a bit short, well it is. Newbies to flight games will take around 1 week or more to complete the 10 regular missions, while advanced players can fly through the 10 missions in about 3 days. The 2 extra missions add some replay to it, but gameplay lacks a tad bit. 3 or 4 more missions would have done the game a little better.
Sound-
10
Mostly all the music was taken straight from the movie, and thats a good thing. Sound effects never sounded better, even though the cries of the storm troopers in the battle of hoth still get on my nerves. The voices were also very good. The best star wars audio I have heard in awhile.
Replay value-
8
Medals add most of the replay value, as you can replay levels and try and do better and better to receive medals to unlock secret things. Eventually the fun will come to an end.
Fun factor-
8
I myself am not a fan of flight games, but so far this is my favorite of all. I think the only thing that keeps me playing are the graphics, without them it would not be much fun.
Overall (not an average)-
8
Final comment
-The best Star wars game I have ever played, if your a fan of the series, a flying addict, or both, do not pass up this game!
