Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II

Review by cvxfreak

"The graphics will blow you away..."

In a galaxy not too far away...

STAR WARS: ROGUE LEADER: ROGUE SQUADRON II...

It is the launch of Nintendo's new system, the GameCube. It can handle high amounts of detailed graphics. Factor 5, the developer of the N64's Rogue Squadron, decided that a sequel is perfect for the Nintendo GameCube.

Featuring Luke Skywalker and Wedge Antilles, the game is very solid. But is it perfect...

GRAPHICS: 11
Graphically, this game rocks! It is so detailed and realisitic, that it resembles the movies in almost everyway. The color, the detail, the polygons counts. They are the best seen EVER in any videogame out this far. They are better than perfect. XBOX has better graphics than the competitors? Not in this case! Awesome cut-scenes from the movies are shown to full quality in this game. With so much detail, I wonder to this day ho the developers finished this game for the GameCube launch.

SOUND: 10
The music from the movies is transfered into the game perfectly. The sounds you love to hear have been planted into the game's courses to provide a true feel for a Star Wars game. And that's what this game is... a Star Wars game.

GAMEPLAY: 9
At times, the gameplay can be very repetative, as throughout the game, you bust up TIE Fighters and other enemies to protect yourself. The missions are either taken straight from older games (Like the mission of Hoth is taken from N64 games Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, though that is not a bad thing) or from the movies (Death Star Mission). Not exactly bad, though there are few original missions.

CONTROLS: 10
This game controls like a dream. The buttons for shooting, speeding, turning and braking are well represented in this game. Nothing is out of place or uncomfortable. The GameCube controller is also comfortable, and with that, the game simply feels like a glove. It controls like a dream...

FUN FACTOR: 9
I will admit, this game can get boring at times. It is really no big deal though, as a great majority of the game will keep you eexcitied throughout the experience. If you are a major Star Wars fan who has played prevous Star Wars games, bump this score up to an 11.

BUY OR RENT: BUY
Thinking of buying a GameCube? This title is the perfect candidate for a GameCube launch title. Star Wars fans will definitely find this title to be a must have. Coupled with Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Monkey Ball, along with the Simpson's Road Rage, Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin, Rogue Leader will perfect your GameCube collection, at least it did to mine!

OVERALL: 10
Star Wars: Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II is a perfect Star Wars game for the Nintendo GameCube thus far. Featuring the best graphics of any game and system thus far, and with barely tedious or repetative gameplay, this game is a great candidate for a GameCube game, if you either bought a GameCube or are thinking of buying one, this title is perfect.
