Legends of Wrestling
Review by DaggerDrop
"Legends Of Wrestling - The Best There Is - For Now"
Though Legends of Wrestling may be lacking in some areas it more then makes up for it then others. The story mode was acceptable, there was a variety of characters, and the Create a Legend was excellent.
Controls - 8/10
Reversals were easy to figure out, and more advanced players can turn up the difficulty and see that the computer can learn how to send you for a loop just as easily. Ready moves are an excellent addition from No Mercy and the 'Set-Up' system isn't bad either. My only qualm was the problems you can often experience executing top-rope moves and the lack of explanation as to how many moves are executed.
Graphics - 9/10
Either you'll love the graphics, or you'll hate them. It's really that simple. The cartoon look gives the game a look that every wrestling game lacks. (Except for Fire Pro - maybe. I've never tried it) At any rate, its a change, and it was one I agreed with.
Sound - 7/10
Sound is one of the least important aspects of almost any game, but it must be considered. The wrestler themes were respectable, and but the background music was lacking. Grunts and groans may be weak, but just as many would have complained about overly enthusiastic grunting.
Create a Legend - 8/10
I loved the Create a Legend. Though the handbook lack explanation it is very easy and quick. Though it lacks many moves, there is an upside. Quite frankly, you don't seem to need as many moves in ring once you become experienced in the career mode (which requires you to pull of a variety of feats to please the spectators) Also, I found it very easy to create copies of my favorite WWE stars. My one biggest problem - only one face to choose from.
Career Mode - 9/10
It lacks well developed story lines. Wait, back up the gravy train...how could there be story lines? Last time I checked lots of these guys never really crossed paths. One of the joys of story lines is acting out what your favorite WWE stars have done. ''I'm going to beat you up'' segments would have been pointless. One of the most overlooked aspects of this game is the need to please the crowd. No powerhouse crushes, LoW forces you to utilize many moves to up your popularity.
I say go for it. At least try it out, and if it ends up bombing then wait until the price drops and pick it up cheap. Just give Legends of Wrestling some time. You'll love it.
