much faster than scrolling through entire guide.
For your convenience I've inserted special search codes near every section to
help you easily hop on to that section by using search code provided. Each
search code will appear only twice in whole guide - thus getting stray hits
will be impossible.

04.) INTRODUCTION - G0400
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
Hello! I am Damir Kolar and I welcome you to my new project. We have awaited
this fabulous game for much too long, and finally... it is here. The game I was
drooling over these past months (I'm lying anyway... Ashe and Fran were...
forget I said that) is Final Fantasy XII, another installment in critically
acclaimed series. Fortunately, I am here to grace its presence with this here
guide you're reading.
At this moment this guide is based on Japanese version of the game, and now the
coverage is based upon US version of the game.
It was released in 16th March 2006. When I got it, I completed it for the first
time four days later. And now, I present to thee...
The guide to finest fantasy so far for me, Final Fantasy XII!
Now let me to address some things:
- Picture coverage - I have a TV Tuner, thus enabling me to play games directly
onto PC. Meaning? I'll be taking pictures of several different aspects of the
game, because some of the game's maps are very huge and describing directions
to get there may get confusing sometimes.
- Spoiler issue - I'm the player of the game, just like you (who is reading
this guide) are. First time I've played through the game was completely by
myself - therefore nothing was spoiled for me. All the story elements
that were supposed to surprise me had such effect. Hence why I do not want
include any spoilers (except names of cities, dungeons and NPCs you must
address to continue the storyline).
- Usage of abbreviations. If you've glanced over some of my other guides, you
see that long ago I've grown accustomed to using abbreviations for certain
words. Old habits die hard...
Are you ready? Power up your PS2, open the disc tray, pop in FFXII DVD, close
the disc tray, wait for some logos to appear, hit Start or Action button (in
Japanese games this is usually Circle, and for US games it's usually X), and
then select New Game.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quick Tips On Importing
In order to play a Japanese game for the PS2, you'll need a Japanese PS2. I do
not recommend any other method such as the mod chip. You can get a Japanese PS2
at the following sites:
liksang.com
play-asia.com
japanvideogames.com
ncsx.com
If you live in North America, you DO NOT need a power converter. A Japanese
PS2 is all you need. If you live in Europe, you will need one.
As for memory cards and controllers, you don't need Japanese ones. Unlike the
PS2 which has region locks, memory cards and controllers do not have them,
therefore it can be said they are region free. This applies to most other
accessories unless it's stated otherwise. So, once again, a Japanese PS2 is
all you need.
Back on the game, you will need a Japanese version of FFXII. The game and the
console need to be the same region.
To get yourself a copy of FFXII (Japanese version), you can try the above sites
as well.

07.) WALKTHROUGH - G0700
===============================================================================
===============================================================================
When you select New Game, you will be taken to few settings to tailor the game
to your liking.
- set vibration on or off (I recommend off)
- set screen shake on or off
- set subtitles on or off
- set screen size between Normal (4:3) or Widescreen (16:9)
- set flicker filter on or off
- set sound preferences
- set screen position
If you want to restore them to default settings, choose [Restore Defaults]
option. When all is set, press [Begin the Game] option.
Enjoy the intro scene. Note that you can skip the scene by pressing Start, then
X (for CGI scenes), while other scenes can be skipped by pressing Start so word
[Pause] appears onscreen. X will skip the scene, Circle returns you to the
game, and Square brings you to title screen (you will need to reconfirm the
choice).
EXTREMELY IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ THIS!!!
There is a great treasure (Zodiac Spear) way later in the game, which can only
be obtained in the following way - there are four 'requirement' treasures
scattered through the game. If you open one of these four treasures, you can
kiss Zodiac Spear goodbye. Treasures you must NOT obtain are (contents is
listed assuming you don't wear Diamond Armlet):
- treasure in front of Dalan's house in Rabanastre Lowtown (contains up to 100
gil, Potion or Eye Drops)
- treasure in SE corner of Cellars in Royal Palace of Rabanastre (contains
Elixir)
- avoid the treasure in Confiscatory in Nalbina Dungeons (contains 316 gil)
- stay away from treasure among 4x4 pot grid on the Vaddu Strand in Phon Coast
(contains 2000 gil, or Knot of Rust)
More warnings will follow thru the walkthru, so you'll know what to avoid.
LITTLE TIPS AND TRICKS
- It is common for the game to display things in high detail. Because of that,
it affects performance of several aspects of the game, and one of those is
maximum number of enemies in range at any specified time. Except in rare cases,
maximum number of enemies you will see is six (6!). This makes it rather
tedious to find rare enemies you're looking for, or trying to spawn something
(Behemoth King mark is one example). I suggest that if you know that specific
enemy or whatever you're looking for in the area does indeed spawn there, you
first go around and exterminate anything that crawls and flies. Then go away a
fair distance (you don't have to switch screens) and your desired enemy will
have popped out of nowhere.
- Game employs an aspect of battle, called 'HATE'. It means that enemies will
usually focus on chr who has the most hate at the moment. Hate is gained in
various ways and to name a few: chr healing other chrs, or your chr attacking
the enemy. Go ahead and try it on Cactite for example - have Ashe steal from it
and Cactite will begin attacking her exclusively, as she has most hate at the
moment. While it's doing so, have Fran continuously cast Curaga on herself and
when she gains enough hate, Cactite will begin attacking her.
- Defeat 10 marks as soon as you can. When you do, you can buy Nihopalaoa
accessory from Clan Provisioner in Muthru Bazaar in Rabanastre. This nifty item
reverses effects of healing and status removing items.
- Shell status reduces the chances of being hit with harmful status effects,
which makes it very effective in certain battles. For example, Yiazmat's Death
Strike has 100% base chance to inflict KO, but have Shell on and it will miss
more often. Shell also helps immensely against foes that have Null VIT passive
ability.
- Likewise, Blind halves foe's chances to hit you with physical attacks. Works
even for foes that have Null EVA passive ability - be advised that your shields
are still useless, but foe's physical attacks will have a chance of missing.
- When you are supposed to go make a Sunstone, make a sidestop in Nalbina. Many
magics can be bought there, and you will eliminate the need for having to truck
status recovery items with you.
- Earliest you can try nabbing Zodiac Spear is when you obtain Dawn Shard.
- When shopping for new equipment, try to make sure you buy at least one copy
of equipment which offers protection against status/es, reduces element damage,
has a chance to inflict a status, powers up your magic, or offers other passive
ability.
- When chr's HP is low, his or her chances for comboing improve drastically.
Refer to Battle Info section for complete information on how does that work.
And unfortunately for you, same applies for enemies as well, which is why you
have some enemies comboslice and combodice your ass when they're in critical HP
ranges.
- The license board is designed to give you free selection of how you want to
customize your chrs, whereas I just couldn't be bothered by it. Therefore, once
I made my choice of who will my main party be, I just had them learn everything
(as evident from regular intermissions throughout the guide). I will briefly
explain few terms that you will find among boss strategies.
- 'Tank' is a chr whose main task is to absorb damage and draw majority of
attention in order to keep enemies away from other two chrs.
- 'Buff' means to fortify yourself with beneficial statuses, like Protect and
Shell.
- 'Debuff' means to remove beneficial spells from your foe with Dispel.
- Avoid selling all of your loot in huge batches. Several bazaar items can be
repeatedly obtained, but you get only one offer per time. For example, if you
sell Behemoth Steak, you will be able to buy X-Potion Pack, which contains 10x
X-Potion. However, should you sell 30x Behemoth Steak, you will only get to buy
one X-Potion pack, not thirty, like one would think.
- Also, once you know what loot items are needed for something to spawn on
Bazaar, you can perform a nifty trick. Let us take 'Assorted Leathers' and 'Bow
& Bodkin' bazaar packages. Former contains Leather Breastplate and Leather
Headgear and can be obtained by selling 2x Wolf Pelt, Tanned Hide and 2x Dark
Stone. Latter package contains Parallel Arrows and Shortbow and can be obtained
by selling Bat Fang, 2x Rat Pelt and 2x Dark Stone. Sell off everything except
4x Dark Stone total - of those you should only sell two. Once you exit from
selling loot, voila - both packages appear for sale, and you just saved 2x Dark
Stone.
- As you enter Giza Plains for the first time, there will be death and
desolation all over the place... a much too grim of a description, maybe? Well,
the weather there will be sunny all the time. Once you complete Raithwall's
Tomb, Giza Plains' weather will turn into rainy one. Re-entering the Rains
after visiting Jahara for the first time will start the weather rotation of
Giza Plains: sunny weather for two (2) gameplay hours, and rainy weather for
one (1) gameplay hour. Also, when the seeq in [Rabanastre / Southgate], who is
walking around near the choco rental, changes into 'Weather Eye', the rotation
of the weather has begun.
- I have read about a nice trick you can perform with enemies that can teleport
between locations on the screen. I'll take Helvinek as an example - this guy
can very rarely drop Grand Armor, the best heavy armor in the game. However,
since it's the only enemy of its kind in Necrohol, it would seem impossible to
chain it... really? When you get Helvinek to spawn, make sure you're close to
the exit of the area, so that you're able to zone within matter of one/two
seconds. When an enemy dies, it usually goes like this - foe performs its dying
animation (loot bag drops at same time), then foe fades into nothingness, and
EXP and LP notification pops up on screen. The trick here is: as soon as
Helvinek is defeated, but before the EXP and LP notice shows up to tell you how
much you gained, grab the loot bag that dropped and zone to next screen. If
you're faster than EXP and LP notices, Helvinek will spawn on this screen
again. So you can keep killing it and chaining it for better chances of getting
the loot drop.
- Update on the situation from above paragraph! Some rare game foes which don't
have the ability to teleport can also be chained in (roughly) the same way as
described above. So far these foes have been confirmed: Lindbur Wolf (same
method as Dustia), Etherian (will respawn in between 'Windmill No.9' and
'Windmill No.10' after you come back in the area). More may be added as tests
are done.
- Normally you cannot drain MP from foes with Safety ability. However, throwing
Ether or Hi-Ether (with Niho equipped!) at such foe will reduce foe's MP pool
by the respective amount. Very useful for making them not being able to cast
magics! If the foe has Spellspring ability, draining their MP won't be
effective (I will notify you of such enemies in the Bestiary section). But...
like your chrs, enemies also slowly regain MP as they walk/hover/fly around.
- Disease status makes target's current HP become target's MAX HP. However, it
carries a nice additional effect - if a foe is susceptible to Disease and you
put Disease on such enemy, this status prevents the foe from using skills which
trigger once a certain HP threshold is crossed. Take Croakadile for example -
at HP < 40% it uses Growing Threat, and at HP < 20% Aqua Bubbles. But if
Croakadile is under Disease effect, its HP will always be considered at maximum
100% and as such it'll never use Threat or Bubbles. It also prevents them from
gaining pass-ables when certain HP threshold is crossed. However, several foes
have pass-ables which are lost when certain HP threshold is crossed, and in
Disease case that won't be happening. Take note of enemies that can remove
status changes with Purify and the like so that they don't catch you off-guard.
- Attack behavior and patterns of foes as listed in "Attack List" section of
foe's overview hold true assuming foe isn't put under status conditions which
make the foe behave erratically. Let's take Gil Snapper as an example - once it
enters critical HP, it responds by casting Blizzaga once and then Blizzara
until it's defeated. However, should you Silence it and fight it until it
crosses into critical HP, Snapper will be using rephy, Flash and Flatten. Even
if you remove Silence afterwards, expect to see physical attacks mixed in with
Blizzara, regardless of the fact that Snapper should be using Blizzara only.
- In addition to above tips, you can do the following trick: let's say you want
to obtain a rare drop from a foe, but this foe is the only one around in the
area. So to get the chain level going in order to improve rare drop %, you'd
need to kill it quite a few times. But you can circumvent that with help of
Petrify and Poison statuses - first check Bestiary section to see if foe is
vulnerable to either of those two statuses. Begin by chaining foes that are
plentiful until your chain level is 3, then cast Break (or Poison) on foe you
want to get drop from. It doesn't matter if target foe is the same genus, once
Petrify (or Poison) kill it off, YOU WILL NOT BREAK THE CHAIN.
- Additional effect that foes killed by Petrify or Poison suffer from is that
they rematerialize *without you needing to zone two areas away for a respawn*.
All you need to do is go a bit away to give enemies chance to warp back into
existence and you're good to.
- Don't neglect the usefulness of tech Stamp. It will copy whatever statuses
user is under and inflict those on the target. This way you can copy beneficial
statuses between your chrs from one to another, or avenge your Disease status
by stamping it on hapless enemy that happened to come along.

Nalbina Fortress
A fortress built on an oasis located between the old kingdoms of Dalmasca and
Nabradia. Defended by high ridges of barren sands, long it stood firm against
generations of aggressors. Nalbina Fortress and the merchant town that sprung
up in its shadow made the area a focal point for local commerce. The treaty to
end hostilities in the war with Archadia was signed at Nalbina, yet immediately
after the signing, the Dalmascan King was slain, and as a result, the Kingdom
of Dalmasca came under complete Archadian Imperial rule. In the two years since
the war and occupation by Archadian forces, the fortress has become a key
strategic stronghold against the distant, yet ever-threatening, Rozarrian
Empire. Works continues to this day to repair the damage the fortress suffered
during the war.
Ashe: "The rest of entry will be added once you get to what remains of Nalbina
today. Thank you for your patience."

[Nalbina Fortress / Aerial Gardens]
- The character you are controlling at the moment is lv3 Reks, 17-years old
boy. Vaan is his younger brother (at this time Vaan is 15-years old).
- Follow the Tutorial instructions - rotate the camera around, then go to Basch
and talk to him. Go to lone soldier and talk to him as well. Go near the door.
When you approach a point of interest, [!] appears above chr's head. This is an
'Action Icon' and it appears when you approach a door, a switch, an item etc.
When you're nearby the point of interest, and depending on what type the point
of interest is, 'Action Icon' changes into [!!], magnifying glass, etc. You can
now press Action to examine that point of interest and do something with it.
Press Action to open 'Iron Gate' and continue further.
[Nalbina Fortress / Inner Ward]
- Basch will explain things to you about Party Menu, then he will talk basics
of fighting. Fight a soldier (do not worry too much about losing, you got
plenty of backup), then continue N. You can open the Party Menu with Triangle.
[Status], [Inventory], [Config] are currently available Triangle options.
- Toy around with submenus a bit (there are new choices about Battle Config)...
if you poke into your inventory, you will see that you have 8 Potions, 5
Hi-Potions, Mythril Sword, Buckler, Leather Cap and Leather Clothing. From
magic spells you can chuck Cure and Thunder.
- When you try to press your way further in, one of them airships greets you.

Not hard at all - you can either stand back and let your allies take care of
boss, or join them in the fray. One of your companions has infinite Potion
supply, so you will last. Basch hits way harder than any of you, and as such he
will be dealing most damage. When boss loses fixed amount of HP, Remora will
rip loose with its special attack three times during battle and try to put
bullet holes in you. Keep scraping down its armor and when it loses 60% HP,
Basch will shoot some fireworks and you win! I know Kamehameha as well.
-------------------- CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE VICTORIOUS! ---------------------
- After defeating Remora, you get to pick off few more soldiers, then continue
N. Before exiting Basch explains about your Map, accessible via Select - if you
take a look at it, you will see a [red X] on it, marking your destination.
[Nalbina Fortress / Lower Apartmens]
- Follow the path, killing enemies as you come across them. Basch will talk
about fleeing from battle (hold down R2). On this screen you will start to find
treasure, so lemme explain briefly how treasure works. Unlike previous games,
most treasure spawns randomly whenever you enter a field (or go three screens
away and then come back for treasure to respawn). Also, when a treasure is
spawned, its contents may vary. You can obtain gil, item, piece of equipment,
gambit, and so on. There is an accessory which improves the quality of items
found within chests, but we have ways to go before we get to obtain it.
Finally, some treasure spawns only once - that is, when you take treasure's
contents, you will never find that treasure again, no matter how hard you try.
- Take the stairs further up. If you're feeling lost, you can always press
Select to bring up the map of the area you're in. May save your hide more often
than you think.
[Nalbina Fortress / Upper Apartmens]
- You'll see blue crystal ahead. This is a save crystal (heals HP, MP and
negates bad statuses). After saving, climb the stairs to the right to continue
to next area.
- Should you be insane enough to spend some quality time here, you can add
following avatars into Sky Pirate's Den, available later in the game.
Balthier - Awarded for Attacking over 300 times, earning you the title of
ASSAULT STRIKER.
Basch - Awarded for felling over 500 foes, earning you the title of
BLOOD DANCER.
Fran - Awarded for casting Magicks over 200 times, earning you the
title of SPELLSINGER.
Montblanc - Awarded for completing a 50-Chain in battle, earning you the
title of THE UNRELENTING.
Penelo - Awarded for acquiring over 100000 gil, earning you the title of
PLUNDERER.
[Nalbina Fortress / The Highhall]
- Fight three soldiers after you (they're lower level than usual guys you
fought so far, so do take them on... or you can just flee). Then follow the
one-way path, open 'Passage Door' that attempts to block your progress, and
soon you reach closed door - scene will unfold.

Garamsythe Waterway
An underground waterway running deep beneath the Royal City of Rabanastre.
Built and rebuilt over the centuries, no one alive knows all of its
labyrinthine ways.
Some are said to lead even to the royal palace.
There are stairs leading down to the waterway in Lowtown, but they are normally
barred to keep unwelcome visitors down in the sewers where they belong.

The Royal City of Rabanastre
Capital of Old Dalmasca, and before that, many other kingdoms stretching back
into the storied history of the Galtean Peninsula.
Rule by the Dalmascan royal family lasted for several hundred years before the
city's fall to the Archadian Empire two years past. Now an Imperial territory.
The story of the city's people is the story of three cultures, those of
Valendia, Ordalia and Kerwon, who bore trade goods along the many
well-frequented routes leading to her welcoming gates.
The town proper of Rabanastre is divided into four sections by the cardinal
directions of the compass. The east and west are merchant districts, the
streets lined with shops and stalls of every description. In the north, the
streets widen into a large piazza facing the palace, and to the South can be
found three gates leading beyond the cits walls to the Dalmasca desert and Giza
Plains.
The aerodrome can be found in the western outskirts of town, surrounded by
numerous privately operated airship docks.
In the northwestern part of town stands a splendid cathedral built in the
Galtean style, the bell of which, when rung, sounds through every hearth and
home in the city.

Rabanastre - Lowtown
Lowtown lies, as its name would suggest, beneath the city streets of
Rabanastre. Great pillars standing throughout Lowtown support the soaring
edifices above. Prior to the war with Archadia, many merchants used lowtown as
a place to store foodstuffs and wares for sale.
With the defeatand occupation of Archadia, many of the former residents of
upper Rabanastre were relocated here, leading to its gradual transformation
into a residential area. No natural light shines on Lowtown, save where there
are passages to the streets above, making it perpetually gloomy.
Many orphans from the war have adopted Lowtown as their new home.

- [World Map] menu added, and you start with map of Rabanastre already. Wooo,
big city for you to explore. I have listed interesting locations above, so make
sure to check 'em out.
- After the scene bring up the map with Select and head for [red X] sign on the
map in East End. You cannot enter any shops for now - bummer. Once you reach
your destination, view a scene - your task is to find Kytes, who went to
Sandsea bar (next [red X] spot on the map). Once inside the bar, you find Kytes
staring at the Notice Board.
- Currently there is one Bill available:
- Bill No.0 Rogue Tomato (rank 1 mark)
petitioner Tomaj is in [The Sandsea]
- Notice Board is where you will find 'bills', or in other words - missions to
hunt down rare monsters. Tomaj will explain everything so just hang tight. You
obtain Clan Primer KI, [Clan Primer] menu, Orrachea Armlet, [Licenses] menu,
and Writ of Transit KI. During all of that Tomaj explains how License system
works.
- My suggestion on spending LP is to first focus on acquiring powerups, that
vary from increasing MAX HP to higher physical attack damage. Put spending LP
on equipment licences on a second tier of importance.
- Clan Primer is the thing you will find using many a times. It contains all
sorts of useful information on monsters, your hunts, interesting traveler's
tips, and 'Sky Pirate's Den' (place where you can view awards for special
achievements).
- Here's a brief description of how Notice Board works. Depending on your
progress in the game, more and more hunts will become available. Sometimes it
is necessary that a specific mark is taken down before next one appears. All in
all there are 45 marks total. Once you have read the bill, you can take it.
That is not all though - you need to find the petitioner and accept the hunt
from him/her. Bill will tell you where petitioner is located. Once you accept
the hunt, track down the mark and kill it. With mark defeated, return to
petitioner to collect your loot. Bill's status changes between [Available] (you
haven't accepted it yet), [Accepted] (hunt accepted, but mark not yet slain)
and [Complete!] (mark slain, but reward not yet collected).
- The Bill's task is to hunt down a rare monster Rogue Tomato (rank 1 mark), or
so they say. After getting everything, go out of the inn and head for [North
End]. At W portion seek out the sign for which Vaan is unsure of what it means.
Speak to 'Conspicuous Bangaa' nearby and he will notice your Clan Primer and
let you enter.
- Meet Clan Centurio and its founder, Montblanc da Moogle, who is on the fence
upstairs. Go have a chat with him, and you become a member of the Clan! Grats
are in orders, and you can now buy goods from Clan Provisioner in Muthru
Bazaar. The goods available for purchase will depend on your Clan Rank, points
earned (each enemy killed is worth some points) and amount of marks you have
taken down. When you talk to him again, you get following reward from Mont:
- for Moppet rank: 3x Potion
- Return to Mont frequently, as he will reward you for taking down major
storyline bosses, specific optional bosses and once you meet some other
requirements.
- Head for [Southern Plaza] and look for bangaa talking to Imperial. Have a
chat with this chap and he will ask you to deliver something to his friend
outside East Gate. Agree to help him and you get Small Package (loot item). Now
you can either sell that for 150 gil, or be a nice person and take it to
bangaa's friend (but you don't get any reward for doing so). Depart for E exit
and you'll be let thru the gate automatically. Save at SCR and look for bangaa
with two bags next to him. Give him Small Package for some gratitude and free
advice.
- If you ever need to return to Rabanastre, you will need to talk to Queue
Watch guard and stand in line for some time. Once queue clears, you will be
able to enter. Exit the town [red X] to enter [Dalmasca Estersand].

Dalmasca Estersand
One of the large desert regions of Dalmasca, located to the east of Rabanastre.
Rife with all manner of mostrous beasts, it regularly plays host to hunts
organized within the city.
What settlements there are line the banks of the River Nebra, a vibrant blue
vein running through the heart of the sands, wherein can be found ferries for
the conveyance of travelers and goods across her flow. Many merchants make a
point of stopping in the villages to trade on their way to and from Rabanastre.

- When you target an enemy, pay attention to foe's name. If it is:
RED - foe's level is way higher than yours, so better avoid it
YELLOW - foe's level is 2-3 above yours, can be defeated with some effort
WHITE - foe's level is same or lower than yours, not too much trouble to kill
- Fight thru monsters to gain a few levels (lv3 or lv4), and also to get a feel
for the new battle system. Cactite isn't hostile, and often sleeps on duty.
Wolf tends to gang up on you, so be careful. Stay away from Saurian, as it is
incredibly tough at the moment. It won't attack you as long as you don't try
anything on it. For some interesting event wait around it a bit and it will
begin to Cannibalize nearby Wolf chaps to increase own level. Look for a red
dot, which is brighter than the others. This is Rogue Tomato enemy you're
looking for.

Sandsea will be blocked; [Wyrm's Nest] has a strong sandstorm preventing

- Drop by shops and sell off your loot to get gil. Crucial buys at this time is
Cure magic and Libra technick. Do the following now to avoid the hassle of
doing it later (though it can also be done before you go after Rogue Tomato):
- talk to (any) magick shop owner 25+ times to get Forgotten Grimoire, worth

Dalmasca Westersand
One of the vast desers of the Dalmascan region situated to the west of
Rabanastre. Few roads pass through this vaste, and as such is little frequented
by merchants.
In Dalmasca Westersand, the sandstorms are more greatly feared than the beasts;
so much so, in fact, that whole societies of natural philosophers in Rabanastre
devote themselves to their study.

QUICK LEVEL UP SPOT!
===============================================================================
- Make way to [Corridor of Sand] and stand close to the line that separates the
screens. We'll be using three chrs for a neat trick. In this area rare game
Dustia appears - to force it to spawn, one chr's HP must be below 10%. Now,
read next paragraph very carefully.
- There are enemies that can teleport between locations on the screen. Dustia
is an example of such enemy. When you get Dustia to spawn, make sure you're
close to the exit of the area, so that you're able to zone within matter of
one/two seconds.
- Dustia can be killed instantly when you use Phoenix Down on it. When it dies,
it will float up for a moment (dropping any loot as well), then disappears, and
EXP and LP notice pops up. If possible, quickly grab the loot bag, but make
sure of this: YOU MUST ZONE BEFORE YOU SEE THESE NUMBERS! When you come back to
[Corridor of Sand], Dustia will appear again assuming one chr's HP is below
10%. That way you can force it to spawn indefinitely - level up, gather LP for
licenses etc.
[Dalmasca Westersand / Galtea Downs]
- If there is a sandstorm in the desert, be wary of Gnoma Entite enemies. They
do not attack, unless they detect magic casting nearby. Reach at least lv6 to
ensure longer survival against Thextera. Hug the left wall from the entrance,
and keep going. Soon you will find your mark.

Kill all Wolves in the area except Thextera and Wolf near it, then engage in
battle. Equip Mage Masher and immediately banish accompanying Wolf, then focus
on mark. Keep dealing damage until Silence connects (if it doesn't, don't sweat
it), and take care to heal when your HP falls below 100. Once you knock off 50%
of its health, mark uses more challenging attacks. First it uses Saber to
double own attack power, and then Cry for Help to summon additional Wolf (if
Thextera is under Silence, Cry for Help cannot be used). If you get Poison,
heal it with Antidote or prevent it altogether with Tourmaline Ring. Saber will
cause Thextera to take as much damage as it dishes, and Fangs is its most
dangerous move, easily causing over 100 dmg to you, so it's doubly important to
keep your HP topped - it is only used once anyway. If you get overwhelmed by
the mark, you're welcome to try later when Penelo is with you.

Giza Plains - the Dry
A vast savannah spreading to the south of the Royal City or Rabanastre, the
environs of which vary drastically between dry and rainy seasons.
Large dark crystals lie scattered here and there across the savannah. During
the Dry, they absorb the sun's radiance and glow with an auric brilliance. A
village of nomadic herders is located near the middle of the grasslands. During
the Rains, the villagers relocate to the mountains. While they reside in the
grasslands, the menfolk rarely return from their herding, leaving the women and
children to their own devices in the village.
These nomads know the art of capturing the energy of the dark crystals in
chunks of magicite, called sunstone, which they then bring to market to sell.
The animals by which the make their living are primarily of cockatrice stock.

- Cross [Throne Road] and head for [red X] (take a look on your map) marked on
it to find a nomad village. Moogle Nutsy has [Giza Plains] map for sale, if you
still don't have it. Talk to village elder, and then to Masyua (she's standing
close to a big black stone) to trigger a scene - Penelo joins your party. You
can talk to Camina right next to you and she will tell you where Jinn is. When
you exit the village, Penelo will give you 3x Potion, 2x Phoenix Down and you
will gain [Gambits] command in your Battle menu. You can now change leaders and
issue party commands.
- You'll need to look for Jinn somewhere in Giza Plains. You can reach him in
two ways. From [Nomad Village] go W to [Toam Hills], then S to [Starfall

Dalmasca Estersand / Yardang Labyrinth; save 07, BLMC.
------------------------------ GET READY! FIGHT! ------------------- party lv07
This is first of the marks that will try to run away and lure you into fights
with other enemies lingering nearby. So if you don't wanna be bothered by
extras, banish them to oblivion. If you have the magics and proper weapons, you
can put the mark under Silence, Slow and Blind. The small dude has the highest
EVA stat in the game, and it sure shows when you're trying to land a blow.
Expect to see lots of counters as well, and for each strike you make you suffer
5% of damage inflicted. Once it is missing half HP, it may try to run away -
while you're giving chase, you may run into other enemies around the place but
if you cleared them out before, you're cactus-ish. If you leave the mark alone
for too long, it will cure itself with Potion and Cure (prevent with Silence).
Entering the critical HP prompts it to ready 1000 Needles. Revive anyone who
got killed (skill can miss) and continue pelting the mark until it falls
defeated. Going solo against the mark is risky - at least get Penelo to tag
along.
-------------------- CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE VICTORIOUS! ---------------------
- With mark dead, you obtain Cactus Flower KI. Return to Dantro and collect 500
gil, 10x Potion as a reward. Dantro will ask you to bring Cactus Flower to his
wife in [South Bank Village] - from [Outpost] go to [Yardang Labyrinth], then
[Sand-swept Naze], then [Banks of the Nebra], and finally into the village.
DESERT PATIENT SUBQUEST
- Talk to Dantro's wife standing in front of the house - she will take Cactus
Flower and you will obtain a Bundle of Needles. Talk to her again and she will
ask you for Semclam Shells. You can find these shells along Nebra river inside
the village in [Banks of the Nebra] part of Estersand. Look for 'Mysterious
Glint's on the ground and examine them. Once you press action, you will obtain
a Semclam Shell. There is five total that you can find. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT
SELL THEM! If you're goofy enough to sell them anyway, return to [Banks of the
Nebra] and look for Semclam Shells again - you need to give at least one to
Dantro's wife in order to proceed to next step.
- Take them back into the village and fork 'em over to Dantro's wife. What, no
reward? Now she needs Nebralim, and Dantro just happens to have this item. It's
all the way back to the [Outpost] now - here talk to Dantro and he'll point
there's some Nebralim left by the crates. Look around the crates for 'Small
Phial', then press Action and you obtain Nebralim. Another Phial can be found
on a pot near the chocobo. MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT SELL THEM. If you're goofy
enough to sell them anyway, return to [Outpost], chat with Dantro and then pick
up Nebralim again - you need to give at least one to Dantro's wife in order to
proceed to next step.
- Waltz back to [South Bank Village], and give Nebralim to Dantro's wife, for
absolutely free. Now she wants you to fetch some Valeblossom Dew, which can be
found in [Broken Sands], area we cannot yet reach. This is as much as you can
do for this quest.
- Return to Giza.
===============================================================================
GIZA PLAINS area - The Dry
===============================================================================
- Go to Crystal Glade and you'll find Jinn resting near one of the rocks. Talk
to him and he'll mark the locations of four special stones on your map - they
will be marked with red [!]. You get a Shadestone KI, and an [Energy] meter
added to your screen. Whenever you touch one of the four stones, a portion of
the meter will charge. When it reaches 100%, you're good to go.
- Seek out the four stones ([Starfall Field], [Gizas South Bank], [Gizas North
Bank] and [Warrior's Wash]), and when near one, press Action to charge the
[Energy] meter. If a lot of energy is added, you may need to charge the meter
with only three stones. Once [Energy] reads 100%, Shadestone turns into
Sunstone KI.
- You will auto-return to that kid - as a reward you get 50 gil, 2x Potion and
2x Teleport Stone. Return to Ranabastre.
- When you escape from Leviathan, you can come back here and start making
Sunstones for the village (Sunstone quest). Process is exactly the same as you
just did it, the only difference is that Shadestone is given to you by Masyua.
My advice is to not bother with it.
- By the way, it is highly recommended that you pay a visit to Nalbina at this
point. You can reach it like this: in [Giza Plains / Gizas South Bank] take E
exit into [Dalmasca Estersand / Yardang Labyrinth] and here take E exit into
[Nalbina Town / West Barbican].

Nalbina Town
Ashe: "This is a continuation of the entry from Nalbina Fortress. Enjoy."
Recently, markets where antiques and rarities can readily be had have sprung up
in the outer wards of the fortress, taking advantage of the steady flow of
traffic which passes through this midpoint between Rabanastre and Nabudis. It
is this pivotal location that gives the fortress its unique character. Many are
the travelers who visit Nalbina Fortress to witness this ever-booming oasis
that refuses to silt over in neglect, or crumble before the blistering winds of
war.

Royal Palace of Rabanastre
A short walk north from the center of Rabanastre will lead you to the gates of
the royal palace.
Before the war with Archadia, this magnificent structure was home to the
Dalmascan royal family, and barracks to the order of knights that served them.
It is currently employed as living quarters and apartments by the recently
appointed consul from Archadia.
The palace itself was built several centuries ago and has been home to many
Dalmascan monarchs, King Raminas being the most recent.
Numerous additions have been made to the palace over the course of its long
history (the Royal City of Rabanastre having several times fallen under the
control of foreign powers through invasion), but the overall bearing of its
architecture is true to the original Galtean design.
Within the palace are secret chambers containing documents and treasures
belonging to the royal family. Few who live beyond the palace walls know how
they may be found.

- STAY AWAY FROM ANY TREASURE FOUND IN THIS AREA. Proceed N for a scene. Then
approach the soldier near base of stairs. Talk to nearby 'Palace Servant' seeq
and you'll get a hint on how to sneak past the guard. Press Square and wait for
the guard to come to your place and stop, then quickly run around and upstairs

[Royal Palace / Lower Halls]
- From your position go a bit E (in regards to the map!) and you will see Hawk
Signet on the floor. Go a bit more past it and press Square to call two guards
in front. They will give chase, so turn around and run away. At junction go S!
Press Square to call same two guards to come after you again - as for you, turn
E at this junction. Loop around and return to the junction nearest to where you
entered this room. Press Square to call three guards from a junction further N
to your position. Run E and loop around the room, then head for the junction
where three guards were positioned. On your way notice the Lion Signet on the
floor - Press Action to use Crescent Stone to trigger something. When you reach
aforementioned junction, press Square to call the lone guard from junction
further N. He'll give chase, you run E, loop around the room and finally get
access to the 'Faint Light' you set ablaze at the end of corridor in NW corner.
Press Action and confirm 'Approach the wall'.
[Royal Palace / Secret Passage]
- Inside this room (no map for the area) hug the left wall until you come to
secret switch. Press it and you can now open the gold door. You will obtain

- Kick their slimy asses (yuck!) and continue W to next area.
[Garamsythe Waterway / West Sluice Control]

and bigass attack will be used for the first time when boss enters critical HP.
Kick, Rush and Fire inflict about 70 dmg, while Bushfire may inflict up to 100
dmg and Poison to allies hit in AOE (equip Tourmaline Ring to null Poison).
Bushfire can be blocked as well. Cure regularly, and keep Amalia alive. Seeing
as how boss wasn't using its major move while I was standing in water, I
thought I could own it easily - unfortunately Firemane gains some haystack food
at the end, because it will warp from water onto stone ground, get ready to
unleash Bushfire there, and then warp close to your location to execute
Bushfire. Sneaky little bugger, that - oh, and one more thing! Boss likes to
warp every so often, so some of your attacks may not deal damage, even though
they land at the spot.

Nalbina Dungeons
A great dungeon, created when the Archadian arms sealed off the lower levels of
Nalbina Fortress. Originally a complex lowtown region. In addition to the usual
collection of petty thieves and murderers, its inmates include political
dissenters and prisoners of war from the Dalmascan and Nabradian armies, all
thrown together without discrimination, separation, or order. An oubliette has
been created in the depths of the fortress to hold those prisoners whose cases
await judgment before the Court of Archadia.

- STAY AWAY FROM ALL THE TREASURE INSIDE NALBINA DUNGEONS, if you want Zodiac
Spear later in the game. OK, so you don't open treasure chests in Confiscatory,
but I am not taking any chances. Treasure you can obtain isn't that great
anyway (few Gambits, some Motes, and equipment piece or two).
- Welcome to your new home for few hours. All of your equipment is gone for a
moment... Explore around, then go to SCR in N end of the map and take exit
nearby to [Arena].
[Nalbina Dungeons / Arena]
- Use Bal's help to defeat Galeedo (knows Attack, Lunge), Gwitch (knows Attack,
Lunge, Cure) and Daguza (knows Attack, Lunge) in event battle. Focus on erasing
Gwitch first to stop them getting healed. Where's Fran...? Ah, there she is.

Barheim Passage
An underground passage beneath the fortress at Nalbina. Originally a railway to
carry goods into the fortress, the passage was closed with the introduction of
airships as the primary means of transport.
The abandoned railway line is now rife with Mist, and the dwelling place of
many fell beasts.

This dungeon's map will be fully completed when you obtain Barheim Candle.
ASHE'S POSTCARD COLLECTION No.11 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
- After you defeat big bad boss of Barheim, the dungeon is sealed off. Complete
the Desert Patient quest later in the game to obtain Barheim Key, and you can
return to the dungeon to explore it along with some new areas.
[Barheim Passage / The Lightworks]
- Mysterious guy joins as a Guest chr. Descend the stairs, approach the tower
in middle of the room and examine 'Timeworn Device' - it will change into
'Power Relay' when examined. It isn't getting any power, though. Make use of
SCR and then talk to Burrogh at bottom of the room. He'll give you a Tube Fuse
KI needed to power up the switch (there's another similar switch close to
bangaa's position). After getting the item, talk to bangaa again to buy stuff.
You are interested into getting Blindna, Poisona, Blizzard, Slow, Blind and
Protect, if you haven't had a chance to go pick them up yet. Return to 'Power
Relay' and insert the Tube Fuse. [Charge] gauge will appear and rise all the
way to 100%. Return to bangaa, examine the Gate Switchboard ([Charge] drops to
70%) and leave thru the door near bangaa to next area.
[Barheim Passage / Op Sector 29] - 2x Battery Mimic in this area
- There are friendly guys called Battery Mimics. When they chew on power
cables, [Charge] power will drop and you don't want that. If power runs out,
stronger monsters will appear and you will need to deal with Mimics healing
themselves as well. Kill the first Mimic to stop it from draining power, and
follow the path to second Mimic, who should also be killed. If you need to find
where it is, take a look at the map, and Mimic draining power will be marked
with [!]. Leave thru the door near the bottom to next area.
[Barheim Passage / Great Eastern Passage] - 4x Battery Mimic in this area
- Take it to the railroad tracks (kill Battery Mimic nearby) and head S,
killing enemies (especially Mimics) along the way. By navigating a little you
will find the Urn which holds the map of Barheim Passage.
- Carry on going S, but take a detour by checking W exit into a side room.
[Barheim Passage / Op Sector 36] - 2x Battery Mimic in this area
- Kill two more Mimics inside. Return to previous screen.
[Barheim Passage / Great Eastern Passage]
- Carry on S.
[Barheim Passage / Special Op Sector 3] - 2x Battery Mimic in this area
- Go S as far as you can and kill a Mimic. If you go further S, your path is
blocked by a sturdy door, so turn around and go W. As you walk thru arcs,
enemies will drop from the ceiling to try and surprise you. Smack them all, and
soon you'll run into second Mimic of this room. Go upstairs and take the W
exit.
[Barheim Passage / Op Sector 37] - 2x Battery Mimic in this area
- In this room seek out two Mimics and kill them. In NW corner of the room you
will find a switch which controls the door you couldn't pass before. Is your
[Charge] higher than 30%? If yes, you will be able to flip the switch and raise
the door. Return to the railway.
[Barheim Passage / Special Op Sector 3]
- Go to the now raised door and continue S to next area.
[Barheim Passage / North-South Junction]
- A welcome SCR - save your game, continue S to next area. Note that after you
gain the ticket to coming back into this dungeon by acquiring Barheim Key this
SCR will turn into GCR.
[Barheim Passage / Great Central Passage] - 1x Battery Mimic in this area
- One gnawing Mimic to kill. Also be wary - Mimics now take on the form of
pots, which you usually check out for items/gil. If you check out fake pot,
Mimic will leap out and fight you. Continue S to next area.
[Barheim Passage / The Zeviah Subterrane] - 3x Battery Mimic in this area
- Be quick in this room - you need to kill three gnawing Mimics. Take a look at
S end of this area - see how a portion of land doesn't seem to connect? You can
go there anyway as the invisible area is nothing but some water-covered path.
What you're looking for is treasure (85% spawn chance, 15% chance it holds gil)
with Oaken Pole inside. Your chances to get it are pretty good, and you can
respawn it! All you got to do is go to next area, save your game, quit the game
and then reload it. Come back to this screen and treasure will be there again.
Once you have as many Oaken Poles as you want, storm for the exit in E end of
the room.
[Barheim Passage / Terminus No. 4 Adjunct]
- A SCR! Get ready for next boss, so exit S.

Boss is accompanied by four Tiny Battery enemies. You can go after them (not
much HP), but know that boss will summon more of them (not more than 4,
though). However, if you KO them, boss will use Breath of Life (recovers 5% HP)
and immediately follow by Spawn - so it's your choice whether or not you will
want to spank little batteries.
Checking boss' weaknesses, you can put Slow, Blind and Silence on it (latter
with Mage Masher) - thus you have rendered it pretty much harmless. If [Charge]
gauge drops below 50%, Queen may rarely use Ground Shaker or Shockstorm. You
can exploit its ice weakness by casting Blizzard.
When fight starts, turn gambits off and retreat as far south as you can - boss
is too big to come after you, so it will just stand there. It may occassionaly
chuck Thunder at you, but you can prevent that by throwing Silence from your
position. Anyway, why did we do that? As you have figured it out, magics can
reach boss from here without danger of exposing yourself, so that is what you
will be doing. Keep throwing Blizzards at Queen until she falls in miserable
defeat. Tinies will eventually stop sucking electricity and come to you, but
just bash them up with your ninja powers.

Hunter's Monograph KI, which causes additional loot to drop from beast and
avion type enemies. Now the quick way into Rabanastre would be to warp yourself

- Next, go to Muthru Bazaar and look for a Viera sitting along the N stairs.
Her name is Ktjn (how do you say that, anyway?). Talk to her and she will talk
about coming to the city and so on. She will ask you a set of questions and
depending on your answers (each answer gives or deducts points from Ktjn's
total), she will give you a reward later in the game. Right now you get this
question:
'Should this trouble me as a Viera?'
- Yes, you should be ashamed. [+1 point] <--- pick this answer
- No, don't be silly. [-1 point]
- For now this is all you can do with Ktjn.
- Enter [Lowtown], then go and see Dalan again. He'll mark your next

deliver it to Azelas (location marked on your map). Head for the [red X] on the

- After the scene Basch joins your party. According to hint of Select map,
Sandsea bar would be a good place to check it out, so head there (or take the
Moogling service). As you approach, scene happens - now enter the inn.
- Go upstairs for a scene. Bal and Fran rejoin the party again. Now the plan is
to rescue Penelo who appears to be taken to Lhusu Mines in Bhujerba - whoopee.
[Red X] on your map marks the spot of aerodrome.
