X-Men Legends
Review by marxmann05
"A real eX-citing and fun game"
The X-men official game for PS2 is here, and its all about fun, excitement, and beating up the anti-mutants and the brotherhoods! This game isn't really related to the Movie, but still it has a good story. This game's genre is "Action RPG", because every-time you level up, you are given skill points and ability points, and the item drops are similar to RPGs (Random Drops).
At the beginning of the game, you play as wolverine (not because he is the best but maybe because he is the most popular of all the x-men) and you proceed to the streets of new york to rescue the newest addition to the group, Alison, aka Magma. The story doesn't really revolve around magma, although you get to play as her when you are in the Xavier Mansion, pretty much all of the time.
The characters in this game aren't as many as the ones we know. The X-men includes Wolverine, Cyclops, Colossus, Beast, Gambit, Iceman, Nightcrawler, Jean Grey, Jubilee, Rogue, Storm, Professor X, and some unfamiliar X-men (if you read the comics, then you would know them, they are Emma Frost and Psylocke), while in the Brotherhood's side and Acolytes (Magneto's mutants)includes Toad, The Blobb, Sabretooth, Pyro, Avelanche, Mystique, Havok, Juggernaut, and Magneto himself. There are also some other mutants who are known in the Comics and Series, some are Gateway and Marrow.
In this game you could set up to four members of X-men in a team (allowing players with multi-tap to play with their buddies). If you are playing one player, you could quickly switch from one character to another by pressing the directional buttons (you use the right control stick to move around).
You could also use different skills for each of X-men, each of them also possess different ability (example for this is wolverine has an ability which he could heal himself automatically, while Iceman could use his mutant powers to build a bridge and slide around the area, some characters like Storm and Jean could fly). Each characters possess only four Active skills (you need to press buttons), the fourth one is called the Extreme ability or in short the "Super Attack". Their passive skills vary from 4 - 8 (this includes their special ability that i was talking about).
There are also combos that you could create using various combinations of Skills from 2 X-men that are used simultaneously.
These are just some of the awesome and cool game-play of X-men legends, there are still some others that needs to be discovered.
The SFX and Background Music is just average for me, although I am annoyed by the way the computer says "COMBO" every-time you do a combo. The character voices are also good too, and you would hear your character say things during performing a skill, and also some of the time.
The graphics... Now this is a downfall of playing with other players, if there's too many of you playing (sometimes even 2 players) and you can't get along that well, your characters would shrink because the other one is going this way, while the other one goes that way, so I recommend playing this game solo or with a friend that you really gets along with.
This game would still be good around the third time you play it (after beating it).
Oh, and for you people who just wants to fight against their friends, well this is a good game too because you could play 2/3/4 cooperative mode or fighting mode. You could do this by going to the Danger Mode in the main menu.
