"A fun X-Men experience"

X-Men: Next Dimension Review
by Jason L (le_jason)

Sound

The music in X-Men: Next Dimension has the "superhero" feel to it. It really brings you into the mood of the fight. The voice acting in the game is decent as well, a lot of voices sound very familiar to the classic cartoon series. Very realistic sound effects are also incorporated in the stages. 9/10

Graphics

The graphics were ok for what they were. I liked the idea of the 4 costumes, with two alternate colors. Toad looked... weird, to say the least. However, this game's battle introductions should get credit, as they are pretty unique in themselves. Also, this was one of the first fighting games I knew on the PS2 that had some of the alternating 3D stages, which was a new concept at the time. 7/10

Gameplay

Can we say, "classic superhero fighting"? This game, defies all laws of physics. Who else can get knocked 50 feet across from a construction site, fly into a glass advertising board, fall 10 stories, hit a parked taxi, and still survive? The X-Men can! Not hard at all once you get used to the gameplay style, here's a hint: Use your superpowers! That's what they're there for. Play a friend in versus mode, it's worth it. 9/10

Story

The story revolves around the X-Men's confrontation with Bastion, and unite with Magneto to put a stop to his new Sentinel prototypes. The story mode is difficult!!! You must be patient, or else you'll be dragged out of the room kicking and screaming. You choose the fighters they give you as you progress through the story. The story has many alternate outcomes, my favorite is the Dark Phoenix ending. Very dark and twisted. 8/10

Characters

Our favorite heroes have returned: Wolverine, Gambit, Cyclops, Storm, Rogue, and many others. There is also a selection of villains, like Magneto, Mystique, Sabertooth, Toad, etc. Beast is an excellent fighter. All characters are unique, except the male Sentinel. Very slow, and hard to control. Play everyone at least once. 8/10

Other/Misc.

This game has many options to choose from, which will give you something to do as you're trying to unlock everything. Story, Arcade, Versus, Survival (Gauntlet), and Training modes are all available. It won't get old for awhile. 8/10

Rent or Buy?

Rent it first, if you like it, then buy it. This game is not for everyone, but if you like the X-Men, then you'll love this game.
