X2: Wolverine's Revenge

Review by wolverinefan

"Average action title"

Story
Wolverine has escaped the lab but he soon finds out that he has been infected with the Shiva virus and that he has two days to live so he sets out to find a cure. Okay, it's a little out there and being a person who has never read the comics, I'm not sure if this is based off the comics or not. I do know that this games has very little to do with the movie. I give story a 7/10

Control
The control is simple and responsive which is great. However, there are a few key buttons missing that would improve the gameplay, like a button to change targets. I give control a 8/10

Voice Acting, Sound Effects and Music
The voice acting is okay, I guess. Mark Hammil does an okay job as Wolverine, I've heard better. Patrick Stewart does the voice of Prof. X which is cool. The sound effects are nice. Things go boom when they should, fences clatter when you slice them open and of course the sound of Wolverine's claws going in and out sounds just too cool. The music is generic beat-em up music but it works and I thought some of it was decent. I give voice acting, sound effects and music a 8/10

Game play
It really doesn't seem that hard to make a good game based off of Wolverine and Activision almost makes a good game but fails in a few areas. You have basically two attacks. Punch and kick. It varies a little but not much more. You can also do Strike! moves which are automatic combos which are cool to watch and easy to perform and there are a number of them. The fighting gets old quick and I found it tedious halfway though the second act. The levels have plenty to interact with and tey look nice and are fairly long but no check points makes the game kinda hard. Oh and there are way too many secret military bases in this game. The AI is so-so, normal enemies aren't very smart but attack in hordes. The bosses are a major pain in the butt and let me just say that if you don't learn the secret to beating each of them, you'll be stuck for awhile. A couple cool features find their way into the game as well. Wolverine can heal but only when his claws aren't out so in theory if you fight without using your claws you should also slowly heal, problem is that the more you fight, the more your rage meter fills and when it's full it automatically gets used, forcing your claws out. There is also a lot of down time as you wait to heal since heal items are rare. The coolest feature in the game is the stealth aspect. Wolverine can sense certain things like heat and whatnot and what makes going into this mode cool is... I don't know, it's just cool in a dorky kind of way. It's used a fair amount of times in the game and it's just cool to play around with. I give game play a 7/10

Replay Value
The game is kinda long and it's hard so it should last awhile. Plenty of secrets are hidden in the game but a small problem I had with the game was, no X2 trailer? You tack the X2 logo on the game and the only thing we get is the suit from X2. Some of the secrets are cool while others are lame. I give replay value a 4/10

Final Score
I give X2: Wolverine's Revenge a 7/10
