Fullmetal Alchemist 2: Curse of the Crimson Elixir
Review by msea
"A great addition to FMA fan's collection."
Basis of the Game
The great game is just like its anime episode. Great way of working around.
Storyline : 9
The storyline is simply just twists and turns in this game, however they explained the story in detail so it keeps the players interested in it untill the end. Not to mention, this game's story is simply just a alternate version of what FMA's anime with a mix of the series, so you can expect some references to the philsopher stone and also some guest appearances from both the anime and the previous FMA game.
Still, to much people, the game's storyline is rather short thus the drawback is, the game is also rather short.
Gameplay : 9
Expect a similar system to kingdom hearts on this game, as it appealed to it predecessor, both games featured a similar battle system, this allows you to chain several combos and also, isn't dull as what you expected it to be. This, of course, is rather addictive if your a fan of kingdom hearts and would like to use alchemy instead of using magics in your arsenal. Not to mention, there's the challanging factors of you fighting an endless horde of golems in certain maps of the chapters, this certainly is a great addition aside from the move on and proceed with story gameplay.
However, the lack of options for Al makes him seem rather pointless to be in the party, what Al does is to distract the enemy and become a sort of the meat... ahem... metal shield so if Ed's level is high enough, Al is rather useless even as a shield.
Replay value : 6
Not much of a replay value to this game, unless your willing to replay it with for certain items that you missed or just to simply level Ed and Al up, this game would certainly be of little value for replays. So expect to be looking at the same scenes when your on your second play through or simply a bit of changes which is rather insignificant to the game and the people.
Graphics and Sound : 8
Ahhh... SE did a great job on the sound section as per usual, the voice overs are excellent and there's plenty of them this time round. Unlike the predecessor, FMA1, it have voice overs for every event and animated cutscenes so its not so dull and unpleasant. That includes the enemies too if your wondering. A plus to this is the fact that SE made it in such a fashion that most of the people won't find it annoying to hear the same sound over and over.
However, the flaw is, longer loading time for cutscenes, although not very important, but it definately slows down those who have older versions of PS2.
Conclusion : 8
A wonderful game, though abit short like Ed... ahem... but still its a welcomed addition to any FMA fan's collection since its adds alot of welcomed improvements over the previous FMA game for PS2. My conclusion is, get this game if your a FMA fan and if your not, try it by borrowing it or renting it.
